Frequently Asked Questions
Bathroom
Q. I am hearing a whistle sound that seems to be connected to the plumbing system. It comes and goes at times, but I can’t find the cause of it. What could cause this?
A. The number one cause is high pressure. Code requires pressure reducing valve on service lines, with over 80 P.S.I.
Kitchen
Q. I have a foul odor coming from my garbage disposer. What can I do to eliminate this odor?
A. Cut-up a lemon or lime into approximately 8 pieces and put in unit and run cold water. Then turn disposal on until limes or lemon go down drain. Note: keep hands out of unit while running.
Water Heater
Q. When I am in the laundry room and water heater is operating, I am hearing a rumbling sound coming from the water heater. What could cause this?
A. Normally due to lime build-up. When heater calls for heat, the lime in the heater pops like pop corn.
Water Softener
Q. My shower head and faucet aerators have a build-up of white substance around the area where the water comes out. Is there anything I can do other than replacement?
A. You have very hard water. It's a calcium build-up on fixtures and glass. A good water softener will take care of that problem. This will also triple the life of the fixtures
Lawn Sprinklers
Q. What is that device in front of my water meter?
A. Code requires a back flow preventor to be installed and tested annually. This also keeps your drinking water safe.
Q. I have a section of my lawn sprinkler that runs constantly.
A. A solenoid valve either has dirt in it or the seat is bad.
